"However, I dropped lucky with Ian as an Instructor. With infinite patience he got me though, no matter how many times I asked the same question he would go though it with me and its to his credit I finally "got it."
(Jason Bridges, IANTD Rec Trimix, 2011)
"I don’t think Paul realised the job he was going to have in getting us through the Normoxic Trimix course prior to our arrival in Malta. However, from the first minute he instilled complete confidence in his teaching methods and we were soon chucking a lot of what we’d previously learned out through the window! It was hard work but tremendous fun and Paul spent as much time as was needed to make sure we were comfortable with all necessary aspects at each stage. Our qualifying dive on the HMS Stubborn was absolutely stunning as were the build-up dives! Paul spent a lot of time tailoring our rigs and mine is unrecognisable from the one I hauled off the plane on arrival and it’s now a dream to dive in! Paul definitely showed me a side to diving that I hadn’t realised was there and I’m 100% positive that I am a better diver as a result, no question!"

"Mr Toomer, Just a quick message to say thank you very much for the pleasure of your company and wisdom over the last 4 days. It was an absolute honour to see you in action and I don't think I have laughed so much in a long time."
(Robert Hardie, PADI IDC, 2009)
"I booked a course under the expert tuition of Paul Toomer. I did some pre study before flying out to Malta, a lot of the manual I didn't grasp easily, however Paul explained in terms that a four year old could understand and then the academic portion of the course was a piece of cake. The whole experience working with dive planning, wing and harness set up, gas management was indeed a learning curve. Again Paul's instruction was first class and so my confidence grew and I was super prepped for the deeper dives. Firstly I was so pleased to being doing the course in Malta as the weather and the clear water made the whole thing totally rock, the wrecks we dived such as the Beaufighter, HMS Stubborn and the P29 were just stunning. This is what doing the tech course was all about for me, getting me to those depths to see those wrecks that a lot of recreational divers just can't. I was so pleased to bag 60m on the last dive and I felt a real sense of achievement. The course itself was really relaxed but very thorough and I met some great people who were also on the course and we became a team, looking out for each other and having trust and confidence in one another. I know I can call those guys and dive with them anytime, they have become friends. I really learned so much from Paul Toomer but not least, I have improved my watermanship skills and confidence that will make me a more rounded diver and I can't wait to get back to do the full Trimix course and bag that 100m goal."

"I had been impressed with Paul Toomer as an instructor two years earlier when I did the TDI Extended Range course with him. I slowly gained experience at deep air technical diving, and after discovering sites like Thomas Canyon and the Blue Hole in the Egyptian Red Sea, decided I wanted to get that little bit deeper, but safely, using a less narcotic gas than air. I had received many recommendations concerning instructors that I may approach. I asked Paul to teach me because of my previous experience of him, the reputations of those who had trained him, and, most importantly, because I trust him with my life. I knew that if I somehow lost the plot he would not let me down. The skill circuit was realistic for the blue water, open ocean environment. There were some changes from when I had done the ER course, all for the better for the environment. It was still challenging, with much emphasis placed on gas switching procedures and regulator shut downs. On our final dive (to 100m in Dahab's Blue Hole) the need for these procedures and skills did become starkly apparent. However, the dive was completed without injury or panic and I like to think I returned that little bit wiser."
